AUTUMN NOTES - AUTUMN AND THE METAL ELEMENT

10/29/2014

Picture
It is almost November and we are in Autumn, which, in Chinese Medicine and the world of meridians, is the Metal Element. The Metal Element is composed of two meridians, Lung and Large Intestine. It is associated with skin and mucus membranes and of course the bodily organs Lung and Large Intestine. You may find you have issues around skin (breaking out), lungs (cough), digestive, or nose/sinuses (cold, sinus infection). Make sure you drink enough water because it is also associated with dryness…but drinking water will also help the detoxification process through your skin and large intestine. The emotions associated with Metal are grief, letting go, and inspiration.

The Lung meridian runs from the top of your chest, near your shoulder, up over shoulder, and off the top and white or inside of your arm off your thumb. The Lung strengthening point is on your wrist, in line with your thumb.

The Large Intestine meridian runs from the top of your index finger (the nail bed), up the dark outside part of your arm over front of shoulder and neck across jaw to outside of nostril. The Large Intestine strengthening point is on the fleshy part of the back of your hand between the index finger and thumb the index finger., but against the bone of index finger.

You can take your whole hand and trace the meridians backward once, and forward three times, or just trace them forward a few times.

You can massage the Neurolymphatic Reflex Points which, for Lung, are located on sternum, between breasts, in two lines from right under the insides of your collar bones to end of sternum. The points for Large Intestine are located on the sides of your upper legs, from hips to knees, located where the seams of your pants are.

Using techniques such as these help you balance your energies, which helps you balance your body. They position you to feel and heal better. Balancing and attuning to the Element or time of year you are in further helps you. It is analogous to eating soup in the winter to nourish and warm and watermelon in the summer to nourish and cool off.

A little time spent can go a long way!
Try some of these and feel better!
